Alright, Onion Planet
Embracing what has been done before, in music and dance, this piece draws on XVIIth to XIXth century social dances that have been Codified, Published and Passed down through history. These structures leave unexpected space for today's overstimulated minds. Within the gaps and repeated patterns, instinctive freckles of humanity begin to surface. These fleeting, unconscious gestures grow organically until they become the heart of the choreography. As if the Form were listening, the Dance overgrows, with its layers continually accumulating.
about the choreographers
Donovan and Anna are both founding members of Ballet D’Jerri and have found much inspiration and joy from working together as a pairing over the past three years. Donovan is a multidisciplinary artist who grew up in Paris and now lives in Jersey. From creating paintings and sculptures, to playing and composing music, Donovan is mostly always creating something to express his thoughts in many different forms outside of the dance studio. Anna is originally from Lincolnshire and moved to London for her training at The Royal Ballet School and Rambert School, where she developed her strong passion for choreography as well as dance, creating a number of short works over those 8 years, including two works for The Platform show at The Lilian Baylis Theatre at Sadlers Wells, and a solo performance for BBC Young Dancer 2022. Soon after graduating, Anna moved to Jersey which is now a place that she cherishes deeply. For Ballet D’Jerri they have created ‘Sposa’ and ‘The Impasse’, both duets performed together, however this is their first longer creation on a group of dancers for the company. They both adore the intricacies of partner work, love classical music and are very excited by the collaboration with live musicians for this program.
