We’re thrilled to return to Guernsey this March to reconnect with our sister islands’ audiences and share two powerful contemporary ballets inspired by the history of the Witch Trials in the Channel Islands, a piece of our past that is as haunting as it is timely.
This year’s programme features:
Flux — Choreography by Katya Bourvis
A fractured, impressionistic journey through accusation, trial, and damnation, Flux reflects the eerie distortions of truth that defined the witch trials. Through a blend of dystopian imagery, anachronistic movement, and visceral sound design, Bourvis confronts how society creates monsters, then we convince ourselves that they were there all along.
Mark Our Ashes — Choreography by Vidya Patel
Drawing on rhythmic and narrative traditions rooted in community, memory, and resilience, Mark Our Ashes is a ritualistic and empathetic response to persecution and loss. Patel’s choreography honours those caught in history’s crosshairs, transforming the scars of survival into a healing journey and laying the “Witches” to rest in love and peace.
Touring to Guernsey is always a highlight for Ballet d’Jèrri — a chance to deepen the cultural dialogue between our islands and bring bold, contemporary ballet to new audiences across the Channel. This visit continues our commitment to making dance that’s rooted in shared history and new ideas.
